Indonesia and Kenya are working together in the fields of trade, investment and the defense industry
Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment
After attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos some time ago, I headed to Kenya, a country in East Africa that has had good relations since 1955.
Relations between Kenya and Indonesia were strengthened by the opening of the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi in 1982 and the Kenyan Embassy in Jakarta in 2022.
In addition to conveying congratulations from the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo to H.E. William Ruto who was elected President of the Republic of Kenya, we also discussed several commitments and agreements.
For example, to further strengthen bilateral relations and ties of cooperation in order to further benefit these two friendly countries.
I also explained that Indonesia's vast wealth of natural resources has been effectively selected to spur sustainable development in various sectors.
Starting from renewable energy, mining, electric vehicle ecosystems, pharmaceuticals, industrial defense and strategy, as well as digitizing public services and port operations.
We convey that Indonesia is ready to share its experiences and best practices with Kenya in all these sectors.
Cooperation between the two countries in these sectors will include the private sectors of both countries.
And most importantly, the formation of a Joint Task Force in the near future will soon begin discussions on cooperation which focus on three main things namely; trade and investment, mining and industrial defense strategy.
I hope that with this visit, the relationship between Indonesia and Kenya can get stronger.
It is no longer just a bilateral relationship or cooperation in holding a conference in 1955, but can further crystallize a cooperative relationship that provides real benefits for both countries
