The Governments of Turkey and Syria Welcome Humanitarian Support from Indonesia
Surya Media Indonesia, The governments of Turkey and Syria welcomed the attention and support from the Indonesian government for the earthquake disaster that occurred by sending a number of humanitarian aids to the victims of the disaster. Turkish Ad Interim Ambassador, Ömer Orhun Çelikkol said that the Turkish government appreciates the support given by Indonesia, both from the government and the public as a whole.
"Until now, a lot of aid has been sent (the Indonesian government) to Turkey. President Jokowi also said that Indonesia is ready to help distribute various forms of assistance needed. We are very grateful for all the support from Indonesia," said Ömer in his statement at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 21 February 2023, after attending the release of humanitarian aid for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria by President Joko Widodo.
Ömer said, not only at the government level, but individually, the Indonesian people also distributed aid to the earthquake victims. Ömer also believes that this form of humanity will further strengthen the relationship between Indonesia and Turkey.
“This disaster also provides a solid foundation for enhancing and strengthening the already strong fraternal relations between the two countries. This will also be a bridge between the two countries and our nation," he continued.
In line with this, the Syrian Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulmonem Annan, also believes that this humanitarian activity will leave a strong memory in the world's memory. Moreover, according to him, currently the digital world has entered everyday life, so that everyone can follow all the events that are happening in the world.
"Once they see this humanitarian aid sent to Syria by the President of Indonesia, it will leave a long lasting impact on their memory because countries come together in times of disaster and hardship," he said.
Abdulmonem admitted that this was the first time he saw a President with a high humanitarian spirit providing direct support during a disaster. According to him, this shows that the world, starting from countries, state leaders, to people in the world, is paying attention to the disaster that occurred in Syria.
“This shows the people in Syria that they are not alone in facing this disaster. They get support from their relatives from Indonesia or other countries that are very far away geographically," said Abdulmonem.
